Protecting your flock

  • Take great care when purchasing breeding sheep from other farms
  • Ideally buy stock from farms which are free of footrot
  • If not possible, buy in sheep from flocks with evidence of a good footrot control programme
  • Preferably breeding sheep should not be bought from a livestock market

  • Isolate for at least 28 days
  • Isolate all new purchases as well as rams and sheep returning to the farm
  • Ensure there is no evidence of lameness before turn out

  • Inspect all purchased sheep and sheep returning to the farm
  • Treat any that have footrot or scald
