Identifying lameness

Research shows that low levels of lameness are achieved by farmers who:

  • Catch lame sheep for treatment within three days of seeing them lame
  • Catch individual lame sheep for treatment rather than waiting for several sheep to be lame
  • Catch even mildly lame sheep for treatment rather than waiting for them to become more lame

It is therefore important to be able to identify even mildly lame sheep and to catch and treat them quickly.
